Enjoying this summer – to – fall day and finding more beauties to film for my pond documentary. Autumn officially begins this afternoon at 5pm.

Look for the large and easily identifiable Twelve-spotted Skimmer. It’s considered most common and is just one of the many dragonfly species that migrates south at this time of year. Migrating dragonflies hug the Atlantic coast, frequenting ponds and marshes on their southward journey.

The three dark spots on each wing lend the dragonfly its name. Males have the additional white spots.

The Twelve-spotted Skimmer can be found across southern Canada and the contiguous 48 US states.
