Simply breathtaking. It is not as if Cape Ann doesn’t have great sunsets often. Tonight was visually reminiscent of America’s first symbolic patriotic landscape: Frederick Church’s “Twilight in the Wilderness.” My cell couldn’t capture the effect, but looking straight down Lobster Cove from the church at its head, the sky in the early stages of the setting was striped with bands of bright red and sky blue, just like Church’s painting. I thought of the connection immediately. His was a plea for national unity on the eve of the Civil War. “History may not repeat itself, but it rhymes.” (Twain , I think). I couldn’t but think we are being given a lesson from history, to mend the divide, when we are given this opportunity.
Harbinger of a new reality!!!
