How I was hoping the skies would clear well enough to see last night’s near complete eclipse. I started shooting at around 11:30 and was a bit disappointed initially. It was lovely, but no blood red. Shortly before midnight, about fifteen minutes before the moon was almost fully eclipsed, my camera began to pick up the red hues.

The first photo shows what the Moon looked like at about 11:30 with the clouds swirling about.

August’s Full Moon is most commonly known as the Sturgeon Moon. I love the Cree name, which is Flying Up Moon, as this is the time of year when many young birds learn to fly.
