Scenes from the film Life Story of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly, imagined to “BomBom” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, featuring the Teaching, from the album “The Heist” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Thank you to Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, and The Teaching, for providing the opportunity to imagine my film to the gorgeous BomBom soundtrack. From the first moment I heard the music I thought it perfect to tell the story of the butterflies with its beautiful piano, range of dynamic beats, and quirky sounds..

Life Story of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly is a 45-minute narrated film that takes place in a garden and at the sea’s edge. Every stage of the butterfly’s life cycle is experienced in beautiful close-up, from conception to pupation to metamorphosis. The film is for children and adults so that all can gain a deeper understanding of the symbiotic relationship between wildflowers and pollinators and the vital role they play in our ecosystem. Filmed in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The North American native wildflower Common Milkweed is featured in BomBom Butterflies. Since 1999, more than half of the milkweed found throughout the nation’s farmland has been destroyed by the use of Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup and Roundup Ready genetically engineered corn and soybean seed. Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is the primary food plant for the Monarch Butterfly caterpillar and its nectar-rich florets provide nourishment for hundreds of species of bees and Lepidoptera.
